The Onyx Nine (“we,” “us,” “our”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect on onyxnine.com, how we use it, and the choices you have.
We built this product for kids and we take their privacy seriously. The short version: we do not collect personal information from children. The reading experience runs entirely in the child's browser and nothing about their progress or activity is sent to us.
Information we collect
From visitors to onyxnine.com: We may use basic analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, to understand how people find and use our site. These tools collect anonymous information like pages visited, time on site, device type, and approximate geographic region. We do not use this information to identify individual visitors.
From customers: When you purchase Onyx Nine, our checkout is handled by Shopify. Shopify collects the information needed to process your order, including your name, email address, shipping address, phone number, and payment information. We use this information only to fulfill your order and to communicate with you about it. Payment details are handled by Shopify and we never see or store them.
From children using the reading experience: None. The story experience at onyxnine.com saves progress only in the child's browser using a feature called localStorage. This means the child's device remembers which chapters have been completed so they can pick up where they left off. Nothing is transmitted to us. We do not know who is reading, what they have completed, or whether they have finished.
If a child or parent fills out the optional feedback form at the end of the story, that form is hosted by Google Forms and any information submitted is collected by Google, not by us. We use that feedback to improve the product.
How we use information
We use the information described above to process and ship orders, respond to customer questions, and improve the site and product. We do not sell or rent any personal information to third parties.
Children's privacy
The Onyx Nine product is designed to be purchased by an adult (18+) on behalf of a child. The reading experience does not require an account, login, name, email, or any other personal information from the child. Because we do not knowingly collect personal information from children, the requirements of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) do not apply to our reading experience.
Cookies and local storage
Our site uses localStorage, a standard browser feature, to remember a child's progress through the story on their device. This information stays on the device and is not sent to us. If analytics are enabled, those tools may set their own cookies, which can be controlled through your browser settings.
Your choices
You can clear localStorage at any time through your browser's settings, which will reset story progress. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using browser extensions or settings.
